Project Proposal

The 8815 Lego Speedway Bandit (USA)

Back to the Project list

For my 3D modeling term project I have decided to build the 8815 Lego Speedway Bandit (USA).

Back in 1991 the LEGO® company decided to make and produce a small model go-kart that was named the Speedway Bandit in North America or the Dakar Sport in the UK which was a part of their Technic series. This little black and red model was made as a toy car for young children to build and play with.

This was one of LEGO's® many examples of a model that included a motor with a moving piston and a complete steering system with an adjustable steering wheel.

Since the piston rod is connected to the rear wheels by a shaft, when the rear wheels move so does the piston giving the effect of a working engine. In addition to the moving engine the steering system is also fully adjustable. This means that the steering wheel can be adjusted telescopically to suit the driver, and that the go-kart can actually maneuver from side to side which is pretty nice.

Summary:

This little red and black model was comprised of 77 pieces that could be made into one of two designs, the first being the go-kart and second being a steam roller. When first introduced this model was sold by many leading toy companies and sold for a measley eight to ten dollars.
