Borrowing a License in SolidWorks 2013 on a Laptop
To use Solidworks 2013 when you are away from Sheridan, you must first borrow license for the
software. To do so, you will need to connect to the Sheridan Network. When
borrowing license, we recommend that you connect to the network using a network
cable instead of connecting via wireless.
- Click the Start button
and select “All Programs” to see the full menu. Scroll down until you see a
folder called “SolidWorks 2013” and select it. The
folder expands showing four icons. Select the folder called “SolidWorks Tools”. Once that folder expands, there will be
seven icons. Select the one called “SolidNetWork License Manager”.
- Click the “License
Borrowing” Tab.
- There will be a drop down
menu called “Borrow Until:”. Select a future date ONLY 30 days from the current date.
(Example: If today’s date is May 10th, ONLY select June 10th)
- There is a list of all the
products that require you to borrow license for, highlight 2D Editor for DWG, SolidWorks Flow
Simulation, SolidWorks Premium, SolidWorks Simulation Premium, Solid Works Standard, SolidWorks Sustainability by holding the CTRL key while clicking on the product name.
- Click on the “Borrow”
button and the “SolidWorks SolidNetWork Licence Administrator” window pops up asking “Do you really want to borrow the
license?”. Click “Yes”.
- If the expiry date you
have chosen is further than 30 days, a “SolidWorks SolidNetWork License Administrator” error window will
appear giving the latest available borrow date. Click “OK” and go back to Step 8
and try again with the given date.
- If no error window
appears, there will now be a date under the “Expire Date” column.
- Click “OK” at the bottom
right hand of the window and Disconnect your laptop from the Sheridan network.
- Run SolidWorks to ensure that the license was borrowed successfully. If not, try the process
again or contact Sheridan College CAD Lab staff or ITSC staff to assist you.
