The Overgrowth - Live/Work Residences:

Overgrowth is an explosion of nature in today’s urban area, breathing life into the Queen St. West area. It is a contrast between Toronto’s rapidly growing urban spaces and the active growth of nature, bringing the two together as one. This building addresses the need for affordable housing by providing 20 live/work studio lofts near Toronto’s vibrant art’s & district. Overgrowth adds greenery and life to an urban space. Just as these two attributes come together our building is focused on uniting the neighborhood by providing places to eat, network, socialize and enjoy what the talented artists have to offer.

Hyde Park Library & Community Center:

The design concept for this library & community center was inspired by an open book. A Book is a symbol of knowledge and information; while the book being open represents the buildings’ function as a way to engage the community and act as a gathering place where people can learn from each other and from all the resources that the building has to offer. We took this concept and designed the shape of the building to follow the forms of an open book, using an exaggerated “V” shape. We continued this theme all throughout the building, having the building stories stacked and offset to represent books that have been piled on top of one another. At the very top of the building we incorporated an open book crown which is visible from far away.
