OBJECTIVES

• Execute quality line work and lettering.
• Properly use drawing symbols and conventions.
• Prepare sketches to specified scales.
• Prepare orthographic architectural drawings.
• Create sketch drawings using a variety of techniques.

BACKGROUND

Architectural floor plans are a fundamental component of a set of architectural drawings. These plans incorporate many graphic elements must be completed using standard drawing conventions. The drafting conventions and amount of detail will vary - depending on the scale of the drawing. This exercise will explore the graphic conventions for architectural design floor plans for a variety of scales.

TASKS

Task 1:

Using the basic dimensions given in the roof plan below, using freehand drafting techniques, print-out and complete the following floor plan drawing at a scale of 1/4"=1'-0"

Using the basic dimensions given in the roof plan below, using freehand drafting techniques, draw the given design floor plan at the following scales;

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• This is a freehand drawing course and consequently all work MUST be created using freehand drawing techniques. Drawings that incorporate ruled linework (i.e. drawn with a ruler) will not be evaluated.
• Use appropriate line weight and line type conventions as discussed in class.
• Be sure to include your name and class code (e.g. F120a) on your drawings.

The drawing will be collected at the end of the class.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

This exercise is primarily to PRACTISE drawing neat, consistent and straight linework. It will be evaluated for completeness only (i.e. Complete or Not Complete). However, your work should show some improvement from the first sketch to the last sketch.
