• Execute quality line work and lettering.
• Properly use drawing symbols and conventions.
• Prepare sketches to specified scales.
• Prepare orthographic architectural drawings.
• Create sketch drawings using a variety of techniques.

BACKGROUND

Architectural sections are a fundamental component of a set of architectural drawings. These sections incorporate many graphic elements must be completed using standard drawing conventions. The drafting conventions and amount of detail will vary - depending on the scale of the drawing. This module introduced the graphic conventions for architectural sections for a variety of scales.

FREEHAND GRAPHIC STANDARDS FOR DESIGN DRAWINGS
(Note: Graphic standards are different for architectural working drawing elevations)

• Show walls, roof and floors - usually filled black, shaded or boldly outlined
• Wall thicknesses should match those shown in plan
• Sections should be located to show important openings, whether they be in the walls, floors or roof
• Interior features beyond the cut plane should be shown with thinner lines.
• Interior spaces are often titled, as in the plans
• People and any other objects appropriate to the project should be drawn for realism.
