The printers
used in the Architectural Mobile rooms and the CAD Labs are different than the other printers
used in the standard mobile rooms; the CAD related programs need 11"x17"
(Tabloid paper) printing capability. The printers in the Architectural
mobile rooms are capable of Letter, Legal,
and Tabloid paper sizes.
To install
the printers, follow the instructions in the mobile guide you recieved
with your laptop (usually by using Xprint). To install the printers in the CAD Labs, visit this page, or ask your professor
or the CAD Lab technologist for help.
Laptop
DWF file viewer setup:
Some
web pages in the CAD Labs use DWF (drawing web format) files. These are
CAD (vector-based) drawings you can zoom in and out of, view and print.
It is recommended you download and install the free Autodesk Design Review software to view these files.
Mapping
the CAD Lab drives:
There
are three drives in the CAD Lab system that may be required during your
studies:
The distrib
drive:
This drive (usually
mapped to the V: drive) is for the distribution of CAD files
to the different classes, and these files are accessible to all CAD
Lab users.
During class, Instructors can place files on the V: drive and ask that
you copy them to your laptop or the CAD Lab desktop; this is a quick
and effective way to transfer files immediately to many users.
The submit drive:
The W: drive is set up as a special "mailbox" drive. Your
Instructor may ask you to submit your assignments here instead of uploading
them to webct - it is simpler and much easier to simply copy the files
to the proper folder in this drive than uploading them to Webct.
Please
Note: You can copy a file into the W: drive ONCE, and you
cannot erase or rename the file after that. Never save a drawing
directly to the W: drive from within an application,
always save it to a local drive then copy it to the submit drive using
Windows Explorer.
Your personal
drive:
You have a reserved
personal drive in the CAD Labs (the O: drive), which you will
use when you are working in the CAD Labs. Generally this drive is 50
Mbytes in size, and you can also access it from your laptop and copy
files back and forth.
As a general rule, you should keep a current copy of all your CAD assignments
on both your Laptop and your O: drive; this way there is less chance
of "losing" an assignment.
