An interactive component in the design allows climbing of the walls and sliding down onto the platform. Interaction with the home and with nature allows enjoyment outside as well as inside.
The Backyard Lofts is a boutique mixed-use building with key connections to the city, surroundings, neighbours and natural elements. Living in Toronto, it is important to create a sense of community and an opportunity to connect with nature.
Based on the innate human attraction to nature. With multiple scaled patios covered in vegetation, interior green walls, and interactive green spaces; the building aims to improve user overall health and wellbeing through biophillic design.
The building was designed for first responders and the communitty they serve. The main focus was around functionaltiy and ensuring efficiency when an emergency is called in. Creating functional spaces with a good atmosphere and flow was one of the main objectives of the design.

As a result, Fire Station 3 incorporates a community learning space where people can come to learn about fire prevention. A solarium is included as a quiet space for first responders to recover, and a variety of sustainble elements have been applied to reduce the building’s carbon footprint.
