This assignment involved the development and presentation of a design proposal for the renovation of a house.

The family purchased this house with plans to remodel it into their ideal home to raise their son and daughter and a couple of dogs. The existing home wouldn’t be large enough for this so looked into expanding this house into the home they envision. The father works as a teacher and the mother works as a Legal Aid that needs a home office space. They enjoy eating as a family and not in front of a TV. A breakfast area or eat in kitchen with light from the morning sun is a wish of the mothers. They also enjoy the outdoors and see the back yard of this property as an area that can be used to play with their children. They would like to have a large rec. room in the basement as well to facilitate indoor activities during the winter months. They also need to add another bedroom for the growing family.
They wanted to limit the project to a total built area of 2700 sq. ft.

The front porch addition was intended to create more curb appeal to the house. The rear addition was to include a large master bedroom with an ensuite and a kitchen area larger enough to eat in, also with access to the rear yard. The basement of the rear addition was to be used to create a large open recreation room for activities in the winter months. The interior of the existing house was to be renovated to provide room for a home office. It also was to retain a minimum of two separate bedrooms for the kids. The clients’ budget was between $300 - $400 K.
