Vicky Nguyen
Architectural Technologist

I am an architectural technologist experienced with residential architecture. I have worked at a custom home design firm preparing plans, 3D models, and presentations packages, as well as having experience doing architectural drafting on a contract basis where I produce plans, elevations, and millwork details for residential interior design.

I have a strong knowledge of the OBC Part 9 and Part 3 and am presently working towards my BCIN certification.

In April 2021, I am graduating from Sheridan College where I also worked as a tutor for 1st Semester architecture students. Previously, I graduated from the University of Toronto with a BSc. in Conservation and Biodiversity. I also worked as a graphic designer during my time at UofT, producing promotional materials for various faculties and organizations on campus.

I am currently looking for a full-time opportunity to apply my strong drafting, technical, and production skills located within and around the GTA.

Work experience

Architectural Drafter  •  Freelance
Jan. 2021 - Present, Ontario, Canada

I work in collaboration with interior designers and architectural designers where I produce floor plans, elevations, millwork designs, and presentation packages for custom home and home renovations within Ontario.

CAD Technician (Co-op)  •  David Small Designs
Jan. 2020 - Mar. 2020, Mississauga, Ontario

I prepared floor plans, 3D models, renders, and presentation packages for custom homes and home renovations, primarily within Ontario. I was responsible for receiving and communicating feedback to my team of five, and then coordinating the changes across plans and 3D models. I worked on over 30 projects at my time at David Small Designs, often working on multiple projects a week with tight deadlines.
Architectural Technology Tutor  •  Sheridan College
Sept. 2019 - Dec. 2019, Jan. 2021 - Present, Mississauga, Ontario

I was responsible for supporting up to 100 first semester Sheridan architecture students over two semesters. I facilitated tutoring sessions where I taught architectural concepts and software through demonstration, group lessons, and individual tutoring. I communicated student feedback and progression to my professor and also provided in-class teaching assistance.
Undergraduate Researcher  •  University of Toronto – Department of Biological Sciences
Mar. 2016 - Apr. 2017, Toronto, Canada

Working under a post-doctorate supervisor, I researched how native bee communities were impacted across a gradient of urbanization, human activity, and invasive plant species density, within the Rouge Urban National Park area in Scarborough. This project was unique because of my use of photography as a non-invasive data sampling method. I conducted research on similar ecological work, analysis of my data, and wrote a research paper summarizing my findings.

Graphic Designer  •  UTSC Department of Student Housing & Resident Life
Sept. 2012 - Dec. 2016, Toronto, Canada

I worked as an in-house graphic designer for the Faculty to Student Housing & Residence Life's digital media team at the University of Toronto. I also took on freelance work for various student groups and events on campus. I primarily created promotional materials such as event posters.

My work focused on clarity, readability, and accessibility of text, providing functional but fun and engaging designs that adhered to the university accessibility protocols and client requests.
